About this eBook

This Top Five Classics edition of The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes includes:

• All 98 of the original Strand illustrations by Sidney Paget

• All 12 of the Sherlock Holmes stories from the original Memoirs

• A helpful introduction, author bio, and bibliography

Could it be that Sherlock Holmes has finally met his match in the villainous Professor Moriarty? Quite possibly. The only way to know for certain is to read the climactic story “The Final Problem” from this collection of Sherlock Holmes tales.

In this second compilation of stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (following the Top Five Classics ebook The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes), we learn about Holmes’s first-ever investigation in “The Gloria Scott”; meet his older, smarter (and fatter and lazier) brother, Mycroft; and are introduced to the most evil criminal mastermind in English literature, Professor Moriarty.

Including all twelve stories that originally appeared in the Strand magazine, The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes contains some of the greatest mysteries the world’s greatest detective, along with his faithful chronicler, Dr. Watson, ever solved.

I was not keen on reading this book, as I did not want to read “The Final Problem”. I still have an issue with that story and thought about giving the whole book a 2 star rating because of it. However, I do admit that the other stories are mostly good; plus, it’s always interesting to read Sherlock’s very first “case”, or to get to know his brother, so it wouldn’t have been fair. Overall it is a good book, although -in my opinion- not as good as The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, since there are a few stories in Memoirs where Sherlock doesn’t do much.
