About this eBook

“...the finest book on India since Kipling.”

India 1620: India is ruled by the son of the great Akbar, and is about to pass his crown to one of his sons. Brian Hawksworth, ship's captain and emissary of King James, must choose sides, but will he choose correctly? The future of England, and of India, depend on it.

He had come to India to open trade for “barbaric” England and squeeze out the Portuguese, who try to kill him at every opportunity. But once on land, he becomes captivated by the country and the people. The beauty and romance of the exquisite Moghul Empire seduce him from his material goals to a new quest for supreme sensuality in music, mystical visions, and sacred lovemaking.

From pulse-pounding sea battles, to tiger hunts, war elephants, harems and forbidden love—The Moghul takes you on a breath-taking tour of the India that existed before the British Raj.

“Grand adventure, firmly plotted, well told… an excellent novel.” –Los Angeles Times

“A fine old-fashioned adventurous read…” –Cleveland Plain Dealer

About the author

Thomas Hoover began his writing career with two classic non-fiction books on Far Eastern art (Zen Culture, Random House, 1977), and religion (The Zen Experience, Penguin, 1980). He then moved into fiction writing with two critically acclaimed novels about English sailors in the early Seventeenth century, one set in India, The Moghul and one in the Caribbean,  Caribbee. Critics have compared his historical novels to those of James Clavell and James A. Mitchner, and his novels have twice been optioned for TV mini-series production.

His most recent novels have examined topics at the cutting edge of medicine and genetics, including The Touchdown Gene, a novel concerning DNA manipulation.

Hoover also acquired a doctorate in oceanography and later served as senior vice president of an architect-engineering firm in New York, where he has lived for several decades. His vices include being an avid sailor and a recognized collector of the classical music of India.
