This books is equally about Ballard and Bosch and starts with the standard murder mystery of a burn victim and goes into a plot about the homicide of a judge. At first, it seems like each plot is separate, but, as the book progress, overlaps between the two cases emerge. The main characters of this book--Bosch and Ballard--are both witty, charming and exciting characters that play off of each others personalities charmingly. Every scene between the two of them is hilarious and perfect. The way they unravel the mystery is funny, fun and interesting. Many interviews with witnesses, lawyers and detectives ensue. All of this culminates to a surprising and satisfying ending. Overall, the book is absolutely spectacular, thrilling and impressive.

Not sure how he does it but he keeps me riveted and on the edge of my seat. I just have to keep reading to see what happen. Micheal Connelly is a great writer and I would recommend all his books.

I love Connelly's books, but there is something missing in the last few books. Ballard needs to be fully fleshed out. I want to know Ballard and remember what I knew about Hieronymous.. This was a little too Smooth.. It should be gritty and more in your face and sexy. I enjoyed it though. Linda
