This tale had me chewing on my lips and wanting to pull my own hair, it was cunning, deviously clever, and maddeningly paced. I devised numerous wild and far-fetched theories and while partly correct, I hadn’t worked it all out as this plot was so twisty I doubt anybody could have and dare anyone to claim they had. The little pea in my brain was scorched from the effort and during the big reveal I wanted to shout at the idiocy of the main character, but I’m not sure how I feel about the conclusion other than brain bruised and distressed. Several of these characters were chillingly abhorrent and I despised the nearsighted and mono-focus of the police. Oh the sheer guile and artifice of this crafty author, Jackie Kabler is a full-blown trickster who ruthlessly tipped her own special blend of itching powder into my gray matter.

I absolutely loved Jackie’s last book Am I Guilty and I had been waiting impatiently to see what she would come up with next. I am pleased to say that The Perfect Couple was worth the wait and another example of just how talented an author Jackie is. “The Perfect Couple… Or the perfect lie?” Jackie. has created a thrilling and twisted read that had me racing through the pages to see how it was all going to unfold. I had absolutely no idea where this was headed and I was so engrossed that I had trouble tearing myself away. When I did get to the outcome, it was completely unexpected and a jaw-dropping moment. Well played Jackie… Well played! Jackie has done a great job with the characters in this story. I particularly enjoyed the characters of DCI Helena Dickens and DS Devon Clarke. Their working chemistry was great and I would love to see them again featured in another of Jackie’s books. Gemma was an intriguing character and she was brought to life through the pages extremely well. I liked how I was kept second-guessing her throughout the story. With each book, Jackie just keeps outdoing herself. I love her writing, which is so engaging and she really knows her way around the psychological thriller genre, which makes her such an asset to it. I will now be awaiting with anticipation for her next book and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next. The Perfect Couple is a highly addictive and compelling read. With a twisted and mysterious plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat, well-developed characters that are believable and writing that is so engaging, it is like you also are part of the story, I thoroughly recommend you read this book. It has been an absolute pleasure to be able to read and review The Perfect Couple.

Mind-boggling. The plot is good. The twists and turns, the human tendencies and faults. The reader starts to suspect everyone and anyone. Every long paragraph gives you a clue. The story starts to give hints right from the beginning. Towards the end a clever reader might be able to break the whole suspense down.
