About this eBook

A “gripping dystopian fantasy” (Kirkus Reviews) that brims with romance and suspense, from the author of The Body Finder.

In the violent country of Ludania, the language you speak determines your class, and there are harsh punishments if you forget your place—looking a member of a higher class in the eye can result in immediate execution. Seventeen-year-old Charlaina (Charlie for short) can understand all languages, a dangerous ability she’s been hiding her whole life. The only reprieve from oppression is within the drug-filled underground club scene. There, she meets a beautiful and mysterious boy who speaks a language she’s never heard, and her secret is almost exposed. As the violent clashes between the totalitarian monarchy and the rebel forces escalate, it becomes clear that Charlie is the key to something much bigger: her country’s only chance for freedom from the terrible grip of a deadly regime.
Kimberly Derting, author of The Body Finder series, writes powerfully and movingly of a girl with dangerous powers in an unusual and expertly crafted setting.

I thought this book was good, in fact I read it in one day. But, I thought there were a few things a little frustrating about it. For one, Derting had tried very hard to force a certain role upon Max-that he was some bad boy who was dangerous, and tough, but sadly I didn't, agree. I wish she had been able to accomplish his role, but in the end he turned out just annoying, I was disappointed with him. Also, I love books that have a strong female role model who the reader can look up to, and I liked how Charlie had started out poor, and rose through the ranks to queen, but I though she was a bit of a baby, and not strong enough. I loved Angelina. The only let down was that the story had been building up Charlie, but then in the end she didn't even do anything. She just let her sister win the battle. I wish that her power had been something cooler, and more admirable. Other than those few annoyances, I thought the book itself was great, with an excellent plot. It was a good read--especially when your bored!! :) I would recommend you read Eon and Eona--Excellent books!!!

I liked it. It was really easy to read, bit as I edged closer and closer to the edge, I realized that this is a series. And this series could've just started in the second book...

I really enjoyed the plot and the characters! To me, they were both very well developed.
