The objectively scoreable apperception test was administered to 725 naval aviation officer candidates during their first week of training to examine the potential of the test as a supplement to the primary selection system. Multiple correlations were first determined by using only the scores from existing primary selection variables; the criterion was completion versus separation from flight training. With a second set of multiple correlations the dimension scores of the OAT combined with those of the primary selection variables were used. The evidence obtained with the experimental sample indicates the feasibility of developing a similar device geared specifically toward a naval aviation population. (Author).
