About this eBook

First in a daring Scottish historical series about a woman determined to return Scottish treasures to the Highlands and the only man who can help her.

Proud Scot Will MacDonald sits in prison for wearing his kilt. He’s determined to leave England as soon as he’s released, but his plans go awry when a mysterious woman enters his cell, promising freedom and gold.

Anne Fletcher never thought she’d see her former lover again. She knows Will hasn’t forgiven her for leaving him so many years ago, but to accomplish her league’s mission, she needs him by her side. Stealing the Treasure of Loch Arkaig from English hands and returning it to the Highlands where it belongs is no easy feat. But with Will’s help, they can achieve the impossible, even if being with him is as painful as it is pleasurable.

Taking back the fortune could mean death but after being parted from Anne for so long, Will can’t leave her side. As they work together to steal the treasure from watchful eyes, will they return to their lonely lives or will they risk everything for a love they thought was lost forever?

“A seductive historical treat—complete with stolen treasure, a fearless heroine and a sexy man in a kilt!” —Joanna Shupe, USA Today–bestselling author

I thought this book had a strong plot, good writing and a array of intriguing secondary characters. I liked the premise behind this book and was excited to read it. For me personally, the end product just came up short for me. I never really connected with the characters and while I certainly felt bad for Will and fiercely believed he deserved so much better all the way around than what he actually got, I never felt fully invested. If I'm one hundred percent honest, I felt a strong dislike for Anne. She was very mean spirited and the type that had no problem using anyone to the point of being more than willing to throw even those she supposedly loved under the bus if it served her purpose at the time. In the end I'd call this a split decision for me. It was not a winner for me and I struggled to finish it but I would still give the next entry in this series a read in hopes that different lead characters made all the difference. This is my frank, freely posted review.

Anne Neville a group of women are tasked with the return of stolen gold sent from France to Scotland. She rescues from prison and recruits Will MacDonald, the former enforcer of his clan, to help her. Will reluctantly agrees. He and Anne have some history before her two marriages and the rebellion. They have never stopped loving each other, but beginning again may be hard, even impossible. This is an intense story with great characters. The women in the league are smart as whips and quite good at planning for their goal. The story is full of danger, mystery, and intrigue. It is also a love story, and although there is great chemistry between Will and Anne, one that takes a while to unfold. Interesting and engaging. A good read. I received an ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.
