About this eBook

Tricia Levenseller, author of Daughter of the Pirate King, is back with an epic YA tale of ambition and love in The Shadows Between Us...

“They’ve never found the body of the first and only boy who broke my heart. And they never will.”

Alessandra is tired of being overlooked, but she has a plan to gain power:
1) Woo the Shadow King.
2) Marry him.
3) Kill him and take his kingdom for herself.

No one knows the extent of the freshly crowned Shadow King’s power. Some say he can command the shadows that swirl around him to do his bidding. Others say they speak to him, whispering the thoughts of his enemies. Regardless, Alessandra knows what she deserves, and she’s going to do everything within her power to get it.

But Alessandra’s not the only one trying to kill the king. As attempts on his life are made, she finds herself trying to keep him alive long enough for him to make her his queen—all while struggling not to lose her heart. After all, who better for a Shadow King than a cunning, villainous queen?

“Tricia Levenseller’s latest, The Shadows Between Us, is a decadent and wickedly addictive fantasy, full of schemes and court intrigue, and delightful descriptions of food, which I am always a fan of.” —Kendare Blake, #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Three Dark Crowns series

Bruh this book literally left me shook. It was so good I'm still like a little freaked out. I used to read ya romance novels but after a while they all felt the same. The characters felt the same, they were just boring and not very noteworthy. The same goes for their boyfriends, all the same. But this made me feel giddy again. I actually liked and sympathized with the characters. I didn't question their decisions or chastise them for being idiots. Seriously, this books needs more reviews and a bigger fanbase.

As an avid fan of the "intent to assassinate turning to love" trope, as well as a story told from the POV of the "bad guys", this is a very good stand alone novel. Great tension between the main characters, a touch of murder and a plot twist that I only half guessed. Finished it the same day I started.

WARNING: Spoilers below The Shadows Between Us was a good fantasy romance, Kallias and Alessandra had good chemistry, and the plot... it was okay. If there wasn't any romance, I would've rated it a 2. Why? The background characters barely had an affect to the main plot. Sure, Leandros sort of did, but his reveal to be Kallias's brother was quick paced and purposeless. Plus, Kallias only noticed her in the first place because.. she was wearing black?? I do not want to overly hate this story, but there's a ton of unnecessary events in it. I liked Alessandra's witty character, but Kallias is just no. He's the typical dark, handsome, powerful mafia prince. He is cliche is me. Overall, the romance was great. But character development and the realism of their personalities is so-so.
