Out of all the books it's the worst one by far. The issue is that they don't even get to be a silver year at school. They messed up with the ending of the last book so now it seems the wrote themselves into a corner. The surprise death in this one, the surprise of family member loyalties...it seemed really rushed and not at all thought out. Hopefully they find a way to steer this story back on track and give it a ending it deserves but yeah it's the weakest book by far.

What started as a fun story about kids and magic turned very depressing at the end of book 3. That only got worse in book 4. All the fun was sucked right out of the story. It lacks the cool magic the kids learn in the earlier books, the clever banter between key characters, Call's relationship with quirky Alistair, the guidance of Master Rufus. Many of the main characters that were integral to the first three books simply cease to exist. What is left is bizzare, morbid and very rushed. It seems like the authors had an outline for the main story but just wanted to get it over with quickly. I doubt I would read another book in this series. I am so disappointed because I really liked the characters. Also, all the 5 star reviews are from before the book was even released and people who clearly haven't read the silver mask.

Loved this series, preordered the book here. It only let me read the first 2 chapters! I bought the book already and it tells me in need to buy it anyways. Worse of all even if I try and buy it again it says you already own this book! Please help me out. I'm not a fan of reading, but this series really had me hooked.
