Ancient Greek tragedy has been an inspiration to Western culture, but the way it was first performed has long remained in question. Graham Ley is a reader in drama and theory at the University of Exeter. He has directed ancient and modern plays, has been a dramaturg for professional productions, and is the author of many books, including A Short Introduction to Greek Tragedy, also published by the University of Chicago Press.
