Beginning in Inner Asia two thousand years ago, the Turks have migrated and expanded to form today's Turkish Republic, five post-Soviet republics, other societies across Eurasia, and a global diaspora. For the first time in a single, accessible volume, this book traces the Turkic peoples' trajectory from steppe, to empire, to nation-state. Carter Vaughn Findley is Professor of History at Ohio State University. He is the author of Ottoman Civil Officialdom: A Social History and Bureaucratic Reform in the Ottoman Empire: The Sublime Porte, 1789-1922, as well as a co-author of Twentieth-Century World, among other titles. He is a past president of the World History Association and the Turkish Studies Association.
