Turtledove throws in a lot of references to things around Los Angeles. The characterizations of "King Zev" of the Valley and "Chairman Cal" of Westside were hilarious. I'm sure there were a few others that missed me but that's fine. A must read.
About the author
Harry Turtledove is an American fantasy and science fiction writer who Publishers Weekly has called the "Master of Alternate History." He has received numerous awards and distinctions, including the Hugo Award for Best Novella, the HOMer Award for Short story, and the John Esthen Cook Award for Southern Fiction.
