His many works include The Annotated Wizard of Oz, The Annotated Huckleberry Finn, The Annotated Christmas Carol, The Andrew Lang Fairy Tale Books, and Myth, Magic, and Mystery: One Hundred Years of American Children's Book Illustration. He lives in New York City.
