關於作者

Frank Gelett Burgess (1866–1951) was a multifaceted American artist, author, and humorist best known for his iconic 1895 poem 'The Purple Cow.' A pivotal figure in San Francisco's literary and artistic scene at the turn of the 20th century, Burgess contributed to the development of whimsical and bohemian aspects in American literature. Trained as an engineer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he took a detour into the arts, employing his wit and talents throughout various creative endeavors. Burgess's pen displayed a sharp eccentricity and satirical edge, often infusing his work with a quirkiness that became his trademark. 'The White Cat' is but one instance of his inventive literary output. In the book, Burgess weaves an imaginative tale filled with humor and fantasy, illustrating not only his storytelling prowess but also his ability to delight and engage readers of all ages. A prominent feature of Burgess's literary style was his penchant for nonsensical language and playful rhymes, which contributed to the unique charm of his prose and verse, and has since influenced generations of writers who came after him. Despite not achieving immense commercial success, Burgess's contributions to American humor and literature are enduring, and his works continue to be celebrated for their originality and impact on literary arts.
