His ongoing goal was to discover a universal ethical philosophy and make it available not just to academia, but to all of humanity. He received the 1952 Nobel Peace Prize for his philosophy of “Reverence for Life,” expressed most famously in the founding and sustaining of the Albert Schweitzer Hospital in Gabon, West Central Africa.
