About this eBook

NATIONAL BESTSELLER • “Vintage Anne Rice—a lushly written, gothic … metaphysical tale. This time, with werewolves.” —The Wall Street Journal

When Reuben Golding, a young reporter on assignment, arrives at a secluded mansion on a bluff high above the Pacific, it’s at the behest of the home’s enigmatic female owner. She quickly seduces him, but their idyllic night is shattered by violence when the man is inexplicably attacked—bitten—by a beast he cannot see in the rural darkness. It will set in motion a terrifying yet seductive transformation that will propel Reuben into a mysterious new world and raise profound questions. Why has he been given the wolf gift? What is its true naturegood or evil? And are there others out there like him?

I’ve been a fan of Anne Rice’s work since I discovered ‘Interview with a Vampire’ in the late 1980’s. Since then I have read nearly every book she has written with the exception of her books about the life of Jesus Christ as a young man. After a 9 year hiatus from writing Supernatural Fantasy Fiction, The Wolf Gift is Anne Rice’s perfect welcome back gift to her readers. She may have stepped away from her gothic writing style, but she didn’t lose any talent during her absence. She seems to have refined her creative skills. Anne Rice does an excellent job of bringing these characters to life. Her insight into human compassion versus bestial wrath makes for some exciting reading. The ebb and flow of the story line is a little out of sync however. The first half of the novel is exciting and fast paced, while the second half of the novel is far slower by comparison. In the first half of the story her protagonist is discovering his abilities and testing his limits with dazzling heroic actions, while in the second half (and I don’t want to give away too much story here) he is learning the history of “The Gift” from some other very well written characters.

I really wanted to enjoy this but each chapter became more painful to read then the last. I can't stand the main character or anyone else in his circle. His personality is so bland and tasteless that just leaves a nasty taste in the back of your mouth. Lastly I was utterly tired of reading how orgasmic it felt as he transformed into the man wolf.

I love her style every book shows magic in characters settings history this takes u into the frozen wilderness of the tundra And brings you into the mythology of the people + the ancient wolves and leaves u wondering what is real and what is fiction. As she is wont to do in every book. When i e each tale i am left wishing it was reality and missing each character as if i lost friends.
