About this ebook

In the first of L. Frank Baum's time-honored Oz novels, country girl Dorothy Gale gets whisked away by a cyclone to the fantastical Land of Oz. Dropped into the midst of trouble when her farmhouse crushes a tyrannical sorceress, Dorothy incurs the wrath of the Wicked Witch of the West. Dorothy is desperate to return to her native Kansas, and, aided by the Good Witch of the North, she sets out for the Emerald City to get help from the legendary Wizard. On her way, she meets three unlikely allies who embody key human virtues—the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, and the Cowardly Lion.

I'm a big fan of the movie. I grew up watching the beautiful scenery, clever writing, talented cast and the wonderful catchy music. I had yet to read the book so I could compare the literature to the classic film. After reading this for the first time, I can finally say that the book was well written, entertaining, very descriptive and visual, but it did have some dark moments where it even surprised me... like when it came to some rather "graphic" deaths of some of the characters. Nonetheless, I was amused by the protagonist (Dorothy) and her friends (Lion, scarecrow and tinman). I think what surprised me the most was the Wicked Witch of the West. I shall rewire my brain so it can get used to the contents of the book. I'm quite amazed at how much was changed in the movie, but at the same time, I'm glad they made such changes. I enjoyed the book, but...I prefer the movie. overall, this was a great read.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is a book that has it's own movie. Its about a girl names Dorthy that went on an adventure and as she is going through her journey she finds new friends but not the normal humans but scar crows, lion, and all these other characters. Dorothy goes through a lot dealing with the wicked witch because when her house went flying in the tornado it landed on top of the witches sister. Dorothy was known because of her red glittery high heels. She has to find the Great Wizard in order for her to go back home in Kansas. ~ Dayana Chatterbox

I didn't dislike the book I just don't understand the order of the book, it wasn't detailed so I would recommend this to anyone it looks like a 5 year old made it, so it's not my first choice. At the end it says congrats you finished the book but it didn't have anything about the author or anything about the book itself, no summary, no description. Really all this book is, is just an idea of the book, no details. OVERALL: this book should not cost anything because it sucks I hate it😡

About the author

An enterprising man who dabbled in acting and business, L. Frank Baum found his true calling with his magical Oz stories. Conceived as American counterparts to European fairy tales, Baum's turn-of-the-century adventures starring Dorothy Gale and her misfit companions presented moral lessons amidst encounters with evil witches and winged monkeys. Baum adapted his imaginative novels for the stage and screen, and they eventually found lasting popularity with the lavish 1939 movie The Wizard of Oz.
