The brilliance of Robert G. Ingersoll remains -perhaps- unparalleled in his time and geographic location. Reading a text from such a cultured man always leads you to ask, what's wrong with the cultural industry of the 21st century?
The means of the 19th century were not even close to the ones we enjoy now. Yet, Ingersoll accounts for most of the discoveries and Science of his time, offering detailed insight of that what was wrong with the culture from his own historic place. You can take it as far as you want to, because it happens to be most of our own cultural burden.
Agnostic was a word used to describe critical thinkers, skeptics and non-believers in a broad sense. Given the accounts of Ingersoll himself, the modern title for this simple yet deeply philosophical essay could be Why I Am An Atheist: The author defined himself after the contemporary definition of atheism in a time where Thomas H. Huxley was barely coining what agnosticism was supposed to mean.
