1855, Lucknow. As tensions simmer in the heat of colonial India, a prince of Avadh and an English woman defy their societies' prejudices to fall in love. Sangeeta Bhargava was born in a remote corner of the Maharashtra region of India and spent much of her childhood in Lucknow. She now lives in Harrow with her husband, two children, 10,000 books and a temperamental laptop.
