Schwerpunkt ist eine genaue Formulierung und weitgehend programmiersprachenunabhängige algorithmische Lösung von Problemen. Auf diesem Wege werden die Grundsätze zum Schreiben guter Pascal-Programme illustriert, da es nicht ausreicht, lediglich den Formalisierungsprozess zu erklären, der sich mit dem Programmieren verbindet. Die Darstellung des Buches ist hervorgegangen aus Kursen an der Universität Karlsruhe für Diplom-Wirtschaftsingenieure.
