About this eBook

Harper Lee's Pulitzer Prize-winning masterwork of honor and injustice in the deep South—and the heroism of one man in the face of blind and violent hatred.

One of the most cherished stories of all time, To Kill a Mockingbird has been translated into more than forty languages, sold more than forty million copies worldwide, served as the basis for an enormously popular motion picture, and was voted one of the best novels of the twentieth century by librarians across the country. A gripping, heart-wrenching, and wholly remarkable tale of coming-of-age in a South poisoned by virulent prejudice, it views a world of great beauty and savage inequities through the eyes of a young girl, as her father—a crusading local lawyer—risks everything to defend a black man unjustly accused of a terrible crime.

If you can get around the racism and slight abnormalities(remember, these are the 1930's) then the book is quite interesting. All you need to do is get through the first few chapters.

The description says you get Sissey Spacek reading the audio book. NOT TRUE! You get the first chapter only! That's a SAMPLE Google needs to change the description.

The timeless message of "Be ye kind, one to another" and "Love thy neighbor" is permeated throughout this novel and is embodied in Atticus Finch. This book has struck a deep nerve in me since I read it when I was 28. It was not taught at my school when I was growing up. My father recommended this book to me when I was coming out of a very depressed time I was going through. I still hang on to every word in this book and I make a yearly journey into its pages. It is not just about racial injustice, although it is easy to pick that message up. It transcends that. Love your fellow man, black or white, male or female, rich or poor, young or old, well-learned or willfully ignorant....love everybody. I agree with what Philip Alford, the actor who portrayed Jem Finch in the film, said, To Kill a Mockingbird is the second most important book to read behind the Bible." He's right.
