About the author
Johann Wolfgang Goethe (seit 1782: von; 28. 8. 1749 Frankfurt a. M. – 22. 3. 1832 Weimar) hat als Lyriker, Prosa-Autor und Dramatiker Epoche machende Werke des Sturm und Drang und der Klassik mit europaweiter Wirkung verfasst. Von Herzog Karl August von Sachsen-Weimar für den Weimar Hof verpflichtet, wo er u. a. für das Theater zuständig war, prägte er in der Zusammenarbeit mit Schiller besonders die Epoche der Weimarer Klassik. Goethes Interessen erstreckten sich auch auf unterschiedlichste Wissenschaften, zu denen er umfangreiche Schriften beitrug.
