Meanwhile Zilpha Clarke, a spinster in Swanford, is frustrated with her lot in 1790. Would they really be happier in each other’s eras or would travelling through time only exchange one set of problems for another?

Ruth Danes is a pseudonym because writing fiction is a private part of my life.

I have enjoyed both history and fiction since my childhood and I have lived in four different countries. These interests and experiences inspired me to write the Life on Another Island series, which is set in a world where many characters unexpectedly start new lives in foreign, sometimes seemingly hostile, lands.

I live in the heart of England and I work in administration. When I am not at work or busy with my imaginary friends, I like to dance, travel and walk in the countryside with good companions.
