About this ebook

Two best friends use their magic to save the world from war and corruption in Susan Dennard's New York Times bestselling YA fantasy, Truthwitch.

On a continent ruled by three empires, some are born with a "witchery," a magical skill that sets them apart from others.

In the Witchlands, there are almost as many types of magic as there are ways to get in trouble—as two desperate young women know all too well.

Safiya is a Truthwitch, able to discern truth from lie. It’s a powerful magic that many would kill to have on their side, especially amongst the nobility to which Safi was born. So Safi must keep her gift hidden, lest she be used as a pawn in the struggle between empires.

Iseult, a Threadwitch, can see the invisible ties that bind and entangle the lives around her—but she cannot see the bonds that touch her own heart. Her unlikely friendship with Safi has taken her from life as an outcast into one of reckless adventure, where she is a cool, wary balance to Safiya’s hotheaded impulsiveness.

Safiya and Iseult just want to be free to live their own lives, but war is coming to the Witchlands. With the help of the cunning Prince Merik (a Windwitch and privateer) and the hindrance of a Bloodwitch bent on revenge, the friends must fight emperors, princes, and mercenaries alike who will stop at nothing to get their hands on a Truthwitch.

"An instant new classic."--Sarah J. Maas, New York Times bestselling author of Throne of Glass

It was very confusing. I am unsure whether I just didn't get far enough into it, but for the first couple of chapters there were more questions that I had than answers the book provides. What answers I did glean were vague, didn't make sense, or were illigical. I also couldn't tell who the main character was as both characters seemed unrelatable, but that is also likely due to me not making it very far. I gave it my best shot multiple times, but it just wasn't as engaging a story as I hoped, even though the world sounds cool.

Truthwitch was a very entertaining book. I wasn't completely invested in it, but I am curious to see what happens in Windwitch. It almost seemed like a complete novel, jot the first book in a series. Excited to read Windwitch!

I like the ideas that the book has in terms of how magic is used in the world. You kind of get thrown in to this huge new world with not much detail. The story is good towards the end. Had a a very slow start.

About the author

Susan Dennard has come a long way from small-town Georgia. Working in marine biology, she got to travel the world -- six out of seven continents (she'll get to Asia one of these days!) -- before she settled down as a full-time novelist and writing instructor. She is the author of the Something Strange and Deadly series, as well as the Witchlands series, which includes the New York Times bestselling Truthwitch and Windwitch. When not writing, she can be found hiking with her dogs, slaying darkspawn on her Xbox, or earning bruises at the dojo.
