Excellent book in some places very sad bringing me to tears. The many beatings he received from the carpenter for doing as ask but in a drunken rage he had it all WRONG. He had another master the same way when he came home full of drunken rages. But Solomon never told a sole he was a free negro (as written in book). But In The end I was so happy he had been finally rescued & reunited with his family & grown-up children, son-in-law & grandson....

To believe as human beings it is somehow justified to subjective any other human being, regardless of race, religion or belief, to this type of inhumane treatment causes me to become ill at the stomach and overwhelmed with a type of grief that is unexplainable. Make no mistake, Slavery(bondage) in all forms, still exists all over the world. It remains the duty of us the people to continue uniting as one and believing that GOD'S spoken plan shall prevail. Solomon Northup I will forever hold your plight dear to my heart and whenever I begin to even complain about being tired or not wanting left overs for dinner that I remember you, Patsy and the others and speak the words "I won't complain "

I am not in the habit of reading books, unless they are actual true accounts. From the minute I downloaded this book to my pad, I couldnt put it down. I started reading it yesterday, have just finished. It evokes many emotions in me, including of course disgust for my fellow man, coming from a race of people who were also enslaved, it hits home that given the right circumstane and upbringing, there are monsters out there, of every race, creed and colour, who, given the opportunity, will beat and bully.
