Mookie’s owner, referred to as Mum, lives in LA and for this reason the Maltese terrier has been turfed out to live with Mum's parents G-ma and G-pa. And then Gertrude, a Bichon Frise pup enters the Tilquin Street household by courtesy of G-pa’s credit card.
If Mookie is often referred to as a stick-in-the-mud, Gerty has literary ambitions but, nothwithstanding finishing the The Dog Obedience school summa cum very loud majoring in dogmatics, possesses a somewhat limited knowledge of spelling. What has spelling to do with dogs, you may well ask?
Brace yourself! Gerty is a voracious letter writer. She writes to her Ant (Mookie’s mum), she writes to cousin Oscar in LA, and so does Mookie. The subjects cover campaigns against the Bush turkeys, O’Malley, the neighbour's cat, she writes about global warming, her relations with Mookie, in fact, everything under the sun.
And now last but not least a word from Julie Anne Rhodes, cousin Oscar’s Mum. Beware! The Tilquin Street Tails have been known to cause chronic deep belly laughs, no matter what your age, or how many times you read it. It’s quite simply writer Uldis Silins at his masterful storytelling best!
Uldis is a Latvian-born actor, playwright, humorist and cultural historian with 7 books and 10 plays to his credit. For his contribution to Latvian culture he was made an Officer of the Order of the Three Stars, the most prestigious civil honour awarded by the Latvian government.
