University Calendars are a vital source of information concerning the development of higher education. This is currently the earliest edition of the Durham University calendar available through Google Books. It is in fact the eighth edition, with the first editions being published for 1833, and annually from 1836 onwards.
The history of Durham University is important for a number of reasons but one reason to read this Calendar is for the regulations for the 'Academical Rank of Civil Engineer' (see page xxxv) the first course in engineering offered at a British university.
