Marcus is a guardian, a vampire born with both light and darkness in him. The guardians are sworn to protect humans from darkness. Marcus is second in command to Aidyn the King of the Guardians. He lost his mate 300 years ago, when he had to kill her during the Demon Wars. Cassie is a nurse, who has been alone since her ex dumped her on their wedding day. She is also the woman Zarek the God who created the guardians, has decided to give to Marcus for another mate. There's just one problem Marcus doesn't want another mate, especially one he will have to watch die because she is human. I loved this book. Cassie and Marcus were a great couple, they were both strong characters that had amazing chemistry. The story was well written, had an engaging storyline with action, betrayal, twists and turns. The book had great secondary characters especially King Aidyn, I hope we don't have to wait to long for his book. Ms. Twombly has created a world filled demons, dragons and vampires. I can't wait for the next book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is an intriguing story with interesting twists. I enjoyed the book and the plot. The characters were likable as well. It's a little different than the vampire stories I have read but was very captivating. I really liked Marcus and Cassie! What fantastic chemistry! The story is sexy with some action, betrayal and sweetness.
