Constantin Tischendorf (1815-1874) is best known for his recovery of the Codex Sinaiticus in 1859. An industrious hunter, collector, and collator of manuscripts, Tischendorf also devoted considerable effort to editorial work. His most substantial work was a critical edition of the New Testament.
