"This book narrates 60 years in the history of Virginia as a British colony, from Charles I's coronation in 1625 through the monarch's displacement and the rule of the Commonwealth of England (from 1652 to 1660), on through the restoration of the throne to Charles II and his death in 1685. Turbulent politics in England during these years meant turbulence in the colony as well, as colonists faced the challenges of both daily life and changing politics.
