Beautifully written. As my father was a Windrush child, from St Lucia, this was so wonderful to read. I'm not very far in yet, so I'm not able to comment on the racism and vile language used in this book, but I know from personal experience just what to expect. I've read the sample pages and they had me hanging on to every word. I could easily imagine the sunshine, the warmth and scent of the rain, the scents of the fruits, the fear of hurricanes and my worry for Leonard's shack during those extreme weather conditions. I'm disgusted by how little regard there was for Caribbean WW2 soldiers who assisted the British army. Those who left their families thousands of miles away to fight overseas, to experience things that no humans should ever have to, to die horrific deaths, and not even be mentioned or remembered by those that they assisted. In unmarked graves with no way of finding and bringing them home. My heart and prayers go out to all those affected. You shall not be forgotten.
