Anandamoy Manna was born in a remote village in West Bengal, in 1942. After getting the preliminary education in the village school, he passed the MSc with first class from Calcutta University. After acquiring his PhD, he started his career as a lecturer at Narendrapur Ramakrishna Mission Residential College. Later he joined Jadavpur University as a lecturer in Physics in 1972 and retired as a professor in 2007. He also worked as a Visiting Research Fellow under Professor Peter Gray at Leeds University, UK under the Commonwealth Bursary scheme of the Royal Society and Nuffield Foundation for 6 months. He supervised Ph.D. for scholars and published more than fifty papers in National and International journals and some books on Physics and environmental science. He became a Fellow of the National Environment Science Academy.
