Emma is feeling depressed. Charlie, the one person she knows will cheer her up invites her to a night out with some ‘friends’. That night she meets a man. ADAM.
A one night stand follows. It is something that Charlie would have done after all. It’s just that now she finds herself regretting the one night stand. Five days in and Adam still hasn’t given up. What will be of the day Emma met Adam.
STORY EXCERPT
Emma tossed back her fourth vodka slammer. She hadn’t even left the flat yet, and already things were getting hazy around the edges. She, and the shot glass, and the vodka bottle were reflected in the mirror. Her face looked bright, made up with colours she had never used before: electric blue eyeliner, obvious streaks of blusher, and her sister’s dark berry lipstick.
You look striking, Charlie would have said.
“I look like a hooker,” Emma said aloud, then burst out laughing. Maybe that wasn’t such a bad thing.
Squinting, Emma checked her watch, and wondered if there was time for another vodka. Then the doorbell rang, and Emma had her answer. She stood, and was pleased that she was only a little unsteady on her feet. Emma had always been the lightweight. Charlie was the one that could drink anybody under the table.
