About this eBook

Kalinda Evans works for the Anglo-Boer war foundation in Canada. She's sent to South Africa to make sure everyone who lost their lives in the war will be remembered. On her drive to the guest farm in Kimberley, South Africa, Kalinda picks up a female hitchhiker and is startled when just moments later, the woman vanishes. Kalinda would be convinced she was dreaming…except there’s still a white lace handkerchief on the passenger seat.

Extreme sports enthusiast and computer game designer Zack Carter is always after the next big challenge. He’s far too busy for romance and adheres to a three-date rule, until he meets his parents’ latest guest. When she relays the story of her mysterious experience, Zack’s family shares the local ghost story. Kalinda and Zack work together to solve the puzzle of the ghost and how it all ties in with the war and the work Kalinda is doing.

As their attraction grows, Zack realizes he no longer feels the need to prove anything to himself. He only needs to prove to Kalinda that he’s more than a good time.

WOW! I do mean WOW!! I was blown away while reading Where the River Bends by Elsa Winckler, a wonderful love story. This story has you believing in ghosts and guardian angels. Kalinda returns to her homeland of South Africa on behalf of her Canadian job, researching the Boer Conflict. On her way to the location of the war, where she was staying, Kalinda encounters a strange woman on the side of the road who suddenly disappears. Kalinda’s encounter with Suzie the ghost started off scary but soon become a comfortable and protective presence in her life. Zach needed to learn that his past did not define who he is and that his dedication to extreme sports no longer needed to be what filled him up. I love the way Suzie brought together not only Kalinda and Zach, but also Zach’s parents and other couples in the area. The chemistry and attraction between Kalinda and Zach is strong but troublesome in that she is there for a short time. This is also a story that allows Kalinda to see she hasn’t totally healed after divorcing her abusive ex-husband but she is no longer the weak woman she was when she unexpectedly faces him and his threats and attack on her at the museum where she was working. Lastly, I loved the fascination Zach’s mother and Kalinda had in solving Suzie’s mystery. Ms. Winckler wrote a wonderful story of a love that never ended, even in death. She did a fantastic job creating realistic characters, keeping the story line interesting, making me forget the world around me and not letting me go until I turned the last page, wanting more. I highly recommend this book to other readers. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

An interesting story that takes place in South Africa and Canada.Kalinda works for the Anglo-Boer foundation, when she is sent to South Africa for work. On her travels she meets a woman, who soon disappears but leaves a white handkerchief, whom becomes the ghost of Suzie. Zach, computer game designer and extreme sport enthusiast, is to busy for romance until he meets Kalinda. Kalinda is staying with is parents. Soon they are all looking into the history of Suzie. I really enjoyed all of the history in this story, along with the back story of Suzie and her romance. Loved the relationship of Kalinda and Zach, and how much each of them grew in their relationship. This is the first book that I read by this author, loved her story telling. I highly recommend this book.

I had no idea what to think going into reading this book. I am a US reader and honestly not up to date on my history on other parts of the word, i am sad to say. After reading this book i will definitely be reading about the Anglo-Boer War just for info that is for sure. This book was both informative as well as a page turner. It a book that is about both Canadian as well as South Africa and based on real life events. Kalinda Evans left South Africa to move to Canada after a bad marriage and her divorce, She is now back in South Africa only because she has to be for work and while there she is staying at a B&B. On the way she meets the local ghost. Yep you read that right. The B&B's owners have 2 sons one son's name is Zack Carter. Zack creates video game apps and is into extreme sports. I mean like he is on his way to Russia to do a marathon in the ice and snow next. They have chemistry like sizzle chemistry but she is scared and she wants not she needs to leave South Africa and go back to Canada and not just because of her job. BUT Sallie the ghost make her appearance again and again. When Sallie appears a wedding is not far behind. YEP. That is what the locals say. I really loved this book and I highly recommend it to you.
