Wholly Sanctified was first published in 1890. A.B. Simpson preached these sermons then printed these shortly thereafter. As A. B.  A.B. Simpson stated, "I prayed a long time to get sanctified, sometimes, I thought I had it. On one occasion I felt something, and I held on with a desperate grip for fear it would go, and, of course, it went with the next sensation and the next mood. I lost it because I did not hold onto Him."

Albert Benjamin Simpson author, hymn writer, conference speaker, was an evangelist to the urban masses of New York City and a missionary statesman. Among his enduring achievements was the founding of The Christian and Missionary Alliance and what is now Nyack College.
