About this ebook

From the New York Times bestselling author who Lisa Kleypas hails as "too good to be true" comes the first book in her beloved Maiden Lane series.

A MAN CONTROLLED BY HIS DESIRES . . .

Infamous for his wild, sensual needs, Lazarus Huntington, Lord Caire, is searching for a savage killer in St. Giles, London's most notorious slum. Widowed Temperance Dews knows St. Giles like the back of her hand-she's spent a lifetime caring for its inhabitants at the foundling home her family established. Now that home is at risk . . .

A WOMAN HAUNTED BY HER PAST . . .

Caire makes a simple offer-in return for Temperance's help navigating the perilous alleys of St. Giles, he will introduce her to London's high society so that she can find a benefactor for the home. But Temperance may not be the innocent she seems, and what begins as cold calculation soon falls prey to a passion that neither can control-one that may well destroy them both.

This is an entertaining story. It's in the past, but she's a strong female lead. She runs an orphanage and needs a wealthy donor to help fund it. He needs a partner to help him try to find someone who is brutally murdering women, mostly prostitutes if I remember correctly. They develop feelings of course, but they both have other issues. She has a checkered romantic past. He has a fetish for tying lovers up. It was definitely worth my time reading it.

This book is better than I expected. I recommend it to anyone looking for mystery, steamy romance (which I can do without), a great plot, and my favorite aspect of the book a dark, moody kind of suspense. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because of the "Ghost of St. Giles" bandit or vigilante was just a little too hard to believe for me. But all-in-all it ended up being a great book.

Temperance Dews is a widow, living and working at the Foundling Home her father started in St. The Home may close without funding. Lazarus Huntington, Lord Caire, is searching in St. Giles for a murderer. But he doesn't know the area or people. Can the two aid each other? Interesting dark, historical, mystery/romance! Confusing at times, but worth the read. Book free for honest review.
