Wie kam Hans Fallada zum Schreiben? Offen und unverstellt erzählt er, wie er erst Landwirt und dann Zeitungsvertreter wurde, ehe er schließlich das tun durfte, was er am besten konnte und am meisten wollte: schreiben. Er erinnert sich, wie es zu "Kleiner Mann – was nun?" und "Jeder stirbt für sich allein" kam und welche Mühen er mit seinen Erfolgsromanen hatte. Am Ende bleibt ihm die einfache wie tiefe Erkenntnis, dass jeder eine Berufung in sich trägt – und man nur das tun muss, was einen freut, um sie zum Leben zu erwecken.
About the author
Hans Fallada (eigentlich Rudolf Ditzen, geb. 1893 in Greifswald) liebte, wie er etwa mit seinem Roman "Kleiner Mann – was nun?" bewies, die epische Breite, schrieb aber auch zahlreiche Erzählungen und kurze Prosa-Arbeiten, die zum Teil über sein von Extremerfahrungen (Sucht, Armut) geprägtes Leben Auskunft geben. 1947 starb Fallada in Berlin.
