Joel Watson
Like others of Collins' novels, this explores some interesting social questions (for the time) in an entertaining and engaging narrative. In this novel, Collins is again adept at revealing the resolution of the crisis from the very beginning, yet still leading the reader through a series of interesting and engaging twists to reveal the path that paved the way to the known destination. The one criticism I have is that the final moments leading up to George and Mary's ultimate discovery are out of character with the rest of the narrative. George's plot seems a thin attempt to merely heighten the tension of the moment so that the revelation is more emotionally received.
