William C. Moyers is the vice president of external affairs for the Hazelden Foundation. The focus of his work is to improve the public's understanding of issues related to addiction, treatment and recovery.
One of Moyers' key initiatives is "carrying the message" about addiction and recovery into the public arena, especially to policy makers and civic groups across the United States. He uses his own personal experiences and professional expertise to highlight the power of addiction and the promise of recovery. He has appeared on CNN's Larry King Live, the Oprah Winfrey Show, NBC's Today and Good Morning America on ABC, and his work has been featured in scores of newspapers and other publications over the years.
His efforts have been honored by numerous organizations, including the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD), which awarded him and his family its highest achievement award, the Gold Key. He also has received the Arthur Liman Public Interest Award from the Legal ActionCenter. This award salutes families and individuals whose work has advanced public understanding of public policy issues related to addiction.
