Unfortunately no sources are given. On page 822 in Volume 2 my ancestor, James Ewing, is described as serving in the American Revolution from Massachusetts. That is an error - he served from Vermont. There are two sources for this information. First, his wife Naomi (Cooley) Ewing applied for widow's pension for James's service from the State of Vermont; ""James, Naomi, W15832, VT line, sol d 4 Sep 1828, wid applied 22 Jul 1837 Rutland Cty, Vt, aged 82 a res of Clarendon, Vt wid referred to sol as late of Pittsford, Vt but last of Haldemand in Prov of Upper Canada, sol lived at Pittsford in Rutland Cty Vt at enl; sol m Naomi Cooley of Greenwich, Ma & sol was of Halifax, Ma when they were married on 3 Oct 1775; a daughter Maria M. Ewing of Clarendon was aged 35 in 1837." Second source is a monument on Route 7 in Pittsford, Vermont honoring those Revolutionary soldiers defending Fort Vengence. The name of James Ewing and his Cooley brothers-in-law are all engraved on the monument.

The scan is fine other than the first dozen pages or so are garbage. Just be sure to scroll in a bit and it's fine. I just wish I could download it rather than have to read online.

You got this all wrong. I am from a direct line from Deacon Samuel Chapin and my dad's distant cousin wrote a small book on him and his family and it proves that he came to America in 1635, not 1656 and how could he become Deacon of the Springfield Church in 1638 if you say he came to America in 1656? I prove my point.
