Kit Kinaci is a Cree teenager, and an orphan, who lives with his
grandmother in Moosonee — a northern Ontario settlement. Living for
hockey, Kit has exceptional talent, and when that talent is recognized
by a minor league coach, he struggles to merge the world of competitive
hockey with the other elements of his life — wanting to stay true to
his Gram, overcome the hardships in his life, and play well in a
desperate bid to win the Championship.
Bill Brownridge is primarily a visual artist, whose artwork can be seen in multiple galleries, as well as in the children’s stories he has written and illustrated. His love of team sports — hockey in particular — is the primary source of inspiration for all his creative endeavours. Born with a disability that kept him from participating in competitive athletics, and having brothers who were great athletes, Bill developed a fascination with hockey, and the passionate belief that it can, when properly coached, build strength and character in young children — something especially important in today’s world, with its preoccupation with selfish, bizarre, and superficial undertakings. He believes that team sports provide an environment where things that really matter can flourish: loyalty, commitment, creativity, and co-operation.
