He was also awarded the Jefferson Davis Gold Medal for excellence in Historical Research as well as the Judah Phillip Benjamin award for his contributions to humanity by the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Ben-Meir had completed four university degrees including a Ph.D. in Psychology and an adjunct professorship. He also graduated from seminary in New York and was ordained as a rabbi. He is married to His sweetheart Tina and is the father of three sons and seven grandchildren. The Ben-Meirs live in Ft. Worth, Texas.
