This book is one of the best Warcraft books I've read to date. Although it captures most of the campaign in Warcraft 3 and its expansion pack, the story is really well written and it greatly expands on the emotions and consequences of everything Arthas decides and does. In one word, fantastic!

Okay, some überfans of WoW and Warcraft 3 may very well like this book out of fandom... But objectively speaking, this is frankly one book you should pass up. Make no mistake, I enjoyed Warcraft 3 and while I don't care for WoW (or MMo's in general) I did think they explored Arthas quite well in both games. Not so in this book. Christie Golden can write very well if she has the freedom to develop her characters, setting, etc.. Yet Arthas is at best a book commissioned purely for monetary gain. At worst, it is an obvious lackluster cashcow that relies HEAVILY on fandom. The story feels rushed, overly sentimentalized and barely as informative as the Arthas page on the WoW wiki. By forcibly being constrained to its too few pages.. well, lets just say that there's not enough room for the story to unfold properly. Spell-checking was cut from the budget and plotholes litter the book. I honestly recommend you skip this title, even if it were offered free.
