Iain McDowall, in Kilmarnock, Schottland, geboren, war Universitätsdozent für Philosophie und Computerfachmann, ehe er als Autor von Kriminalromanen bekannt wurde. Heute lebt er in Worcester, England, wo sich auch die fiktive Stadt Crowby befindet, in der seine Kriminalromane allesamt spielen.
