About this eBook

Melina’s not like the rest of her family, but if she tries hard enough, maybe one day she’ll be enough. With the Centennial Games approaching, she’s running out of time to prepare. Her parents also grow ever more impatient for her to choose a suitor.

The ferocious intensity of the Games brings everything into sharp focus. For the first time in her life, Melina begins to understand just how different she really is, and why she’s struggled to pick a future husband. Can someone like Melina ever truly find a place among the Evians, or will her differences endanger them all?

I enjoyed this story, but maybe not quite as much as the other books in the series. That's mostly due to the fact that Melina isn't one of my favorite characters. After reading this, I did end up liking her more than I had before, but more importantly, I understood her. This book also revealed some important things pertaining to the other books in the series, and there were some things revealed that I had been wondering about for a while. I especially appreciated getting insight into her parent's relationship. This was one thing that helped me understand Melina's motivations. After reading this I had more sympathy for her father, and more disdain for her mother. I'm not gonna lie, I really dislike that women. Overall this was a good read and I'm looking forward to reading the next books in the series.

I definitely enjoyed this book. It's a break from the main characters while giving more insight into the family dynamics/history and keeping you engaged in the Evian world!

This book focuses mostly on Melina and her story. It really brings her life, her struggles, her sorrows, and her choices into focus. I really feel terrible for what she has endured and how her reputation plummeted following her departure from the Alamecha world. She was truly loved by some, and gave freely of love herself. I liked learning more about her and about the pre-Chancery life their mother had. And wow, plot twist!!

About the author

Bridget is a lawyer turned novelist who loves her husband (every day) and all five of her kids (most days). She has three goofy horses, one very busy dog, two spoiled barn cats, two lion’s head rabbits, and more chickens than she cares to admit. She makes cookies waaaaaay too often, and believes they should be their own food group. In an attempt to level the scales between consumption and exertion, she kickboxes every day. So if you don’t like her books, her kids, or her cookies, maybe don’t tell her in person.
