About this ebook

Following up on Crap Cars and My Dad Had One of Those, Top Gear celebrates the midlife crisis with the definitive collection of the flashest, fastest, most impractical cars ever to be found in the driveways of otherwise perfectly sensible men.

Drawing on the high level of expertise in this area, Top Gear explores the phenomenon of motoring and the midlife crisis, identifying over 50 classics of the genre across four desperate decades. From Ford Capri to Ferrari Testarossa, it celebrates the flashest, fastest and most ridiculous attempts to cover a bald spot, meanwhile offering a profound insight into the complex psychology of a middle-aged man and his quest for eternal youth.

Top Gear's Midlife Crisis Cars both rejoices and recoils at the time-honoured tradition of flushing the children's inheritance on something you're too arthritic to get into in the first place.

The ultimate mid-life crisis car of the 21st century has boiled down to 2 cars - the Porsche 911 and the Chevrolet Corvette C6. Both options make grown men in their late 40's and early 50's feel like they're back in their senior year of high school. Why do you think you always see old men drive around in Corvettes that were made in 2006 and up? The reason is because when men get old, they want to feel young again, so they buy a quick, but at the same time not too expensive, sports car. The Corvette C6 isn't the most expensive Vette in the world, not even close. It also provides the 'get-up-and-go' feeling when you give it some gas, so why wouldn't you get one? I'll most likely do the same thing when I get up there in age and use my retirement money to buy a sports car that goes through gas like a paper shredder goes through paper.
