Character Potential Squandered — [There will be spoilers!] — This book started with such potential, but it was just squandered. The hero and heroine appeared sympathetic in their first scenes, but soon, both characters became unlikable, her more so than him. The big problem with this book is that it had too many secrets between the couple for too long—in fact, they kept building—causing many misunderstandings that could have simply been avoided if they had talked with and trusted each other. I don't like it when a romantic plot goes so off the rails over simple misunderstandings that snowball. And the heroine was particularly dramatic. She could go from zero to fury in 1.5 seconds! She mentally complains about the hero's dishonesty when she has been dishonest with him. Grrr! Seriously, talk about the pot calling the kettle black! Though everyone, seemingly, lambasted the hero for his immaturity, I actually felt bad for him! He was good and kind-hearted, but nobody seemed to appreciate him. I actually kept reading this book for a few days because I did honestly like the hero (and hoped the heroine would smarten up!), but when the uber-villain of the story falsified the gambling debts of the hero for the villain’s benefit, and the hero went along with it—though it meant giving up on his dream he’d been working on for a year—despite the heroine's protestations, I completely gave up on the book. I’m sure things turned around, but all the cliches and misunderstandings frustrated me so I just could not go on. — I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

Full of danger and drama! Lady Theresa (Tessa) Colvin has serious problems and it will take all of her will to overcome them. Serious danger if something she will encounter but the danger is not just to herself. Peyton Danforth is a young man who is tired of living under his brother's shadow. The brothers love that was clear from chapter one yet they did not understand each other. This book is full of twists and they are super good and the drama for both main characters if off the chart excellent. I could not put the book done I highly recommend this book!

Her Rake is the second book in the His and Hers series and is an engaging Regency romantic suspense story. This book has kidnapping, danger, intrigue, a marriage of convenience, and romance. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
