When Lucian is exiled from Earth, he must travel to the distant world of Volsung to receive training. During the long passage, he meets a mysterious mage. She prophesies Lucian is marked by the Manifold, the reality that is the source of all magic. It is a destiny that requires Lucian to master abilities he never imagined he possessed.

But that’s the last thing Lucian wants. He faces a terrible choice. To accept his new reality as a mage. Or, to try and outrun destiny...

It's an all right series to pass time. Just finished book 9 and it's all the same stuff eventually. Quirks Lucian and his crew do just get worse throughout the book. Reviews are horrible considering they're mainly from his "beta editors". That's just bad practice imo. Paid reviews?

After reading the wasteland chronicles series and the Xenoworld saga I’m excited to see a new series of books from Kyle West and after reading the Mages of Starsea I know I’m in for another fantastically epic sci-fi fantasy experience. Kyle always manages to make every character in his book spring to life taking you on the same emotional journey they undertake in a wonderfully described world that sparks your imagination. A great start to what I’m sure will be an excellent series of book that I cannot wait to read. Enjoy!

Kyle is an amazing author (The Wasteland Chronicles is one of my all-time favorites) and this first book in his new series does not disappoint! The Mages of Starsea is a great mix of sci-fi and fantasy, set in a very realistic (and possible) future. The background of future earth pulled me into Lucian's world quickly but the real adventure began when he headed for the stars. Combined with the uncertainty and potential of his growing powers, the stage is set for an exciting and epic adventure! I'm already looking forward to the next book in the series and following Lucian's journey in (hopefully many) future books!
