On a typical weekend hike with a buddy from childhood, Nickie finds herself bitten by a rattlesnake. In order to heal itself, her body changes. Boom. This orphan raised in a family of mostly humans funds out she is a shifter. PS she has an adopted brother who is a shaman. All of a sudden, she sees, hears and smells the word differently. In more ways than one, really. She realizes she is a telepath, and can hear and understand many others, and call or stop a shift. Thanks to a long time friend of her father, she learns many new skills. As she puts it, it is probably less that everyone else has changed, and more now that she has changed that she sees and understands them in different ways. Unfortunately, not all want to relate to her without seeing her as a threat - or as a desirable mate. Talk about culture shock - the idea that someone would try to claim her is completely foreign - and a huge shock when someone tries. A really interesting standalone - and very cool as the first book in a series about this community. It is the kind of book with action and adventure that also makes you think about perceptions and ideologies - including understanding of self. Looking forward to the adventures continuing! Loved the story of Nickie finding out she is a shape shifter wolf. (Kitsune)After being bitten by a rattlesnake while on a hike. The shock & learning process of what special powers she has. The ending a bit of a shocker. Kept waiting for Brandon & his threats to Nickie. Will have to read next book!!

A different take on shifters very refreshing. A great time for all who read thrill romance great story line w/ a kick butt heroine. Plus several break from characters that you must know about, cannot wait to read the next book!

About the author

 Melissa was born and raised in Arizona, she's spent her entire life living across the southern half of the state. She's found that, along with her husband and three children, she prefers the small towns and rural life to feeling packed into a city.

She started reading at a very young age, and her love for series started early, as the first real books she remembers reading is the Boxcar Children series by Gertrude Chandler Warner. Through the years she's found that there's little she won't read, and her tastes vary from westerns, to romance, to sci-fi / fantasy and Horror.
She's been writing since 2009, and enjoys nearly every minute of it.
