Twenty million in diamonds missing.

Kate Sawyer, a cop in witness protection, holds the key.

If she could only remember.

Early-onset Alzheimer’s clouds the past. Stem cell therapy is working to clear it.

But time is running out for Kate.

One night she finds a dead man in her bathtub with a note stuck in his pocket.

I know what you’ve done.

Her cover blown, Kate runs, the clock is ticking. People close to her are being killed.

Shadowy memories tease her. Some she recognizes. Others don’t seem familiar at all.

Running from people she can’t remember, dogged by a past lost in the haze, Kate discovers no one is who they appear to be, perhaps not even herself.

After Me is a dark psychological thriller on the cutting edge of medical science, perfect for those who like scientific what-ifs...with a ray of hope.

AN INTERVIEW WITH DEBORAH COONTS

After making a name for yourself in another genre, why switch genres now?

My first series featuring Lucky O’Toole is a light, romantic mystery series. At the time, my life was pretty dark, so I enjoyed the laugh-out-loud snark of Lucky and her pals.

But, now life is a bit brighter and I find the darker side, my love of thrillers calling to me. I’ve always loved thrillers, especially psychological thrillers, medical thrillers, women in jeopardy chase books, that sort of thing. Fast-paced storylines with deep, well-rounded characters—I wanted to add my name to the list of writers who have delved deep into these waters.

You’re a lawyer, so why the medical tie-in?

I’ve always been a science geek. When I first went to college, medical school was my target. Alas, life got in the way, but it didn’t dim my interest in the field. And today, technology is honing a sharp edge in the medical field raising lots of possibilities for cures. But where there is a good use there is also a bad use—the yin and the yang. Nothing ever comes without a price. Great for storytelling.

PRAISE FOR After Me

"Fantastic! Coonts combines her trademark strong characters and clever plotting with one of the freshest concepts in suspense--a heroine with early onset Alzheimer's who literally can't remember why everyone wants her dead. Buckle your seatbelt for a wild ride!" - Lisa Gardner, #1 New York Times bestselling author

"A firecracker of a thriller--with an ingenious premise, non-stop suspense and terrific writing. But it's the heroine who makes this such a winner--a heart-breakingly damaged loner who's got 'soon-to-be-a-major-motion-picture' written all over her." - Hank Phillippi Ryan, Anthony, Agatha, and Mary Higgins Clark award-winning author

"Everyone who loves Deborah Coonts's Lucky series knows that she is a master of the humorous mystery; now everyone will watch Coonts make her mark in the darker world of suspense. After Me hooked me from page one. After Me is the hallmark of a great thriller: strong voice, twisting mystery, and a compelling heroine." - Allison Brennan, New York Times bestselling author

"Relentlessly paced, After Me is the compelling quest of a woman's inspiring quest to survive...and a haunting reminder of the great truth: we are what we remember. It's Coonts's most gripping book yet." - Vicki Pettersson, New York Times & USA Today bestselling author

"Deborah Coonts' After Me is the perfect thriller: a protagonist is being chased by those driven to make her pay with her life for a deed she may or may not have done, and truly cannot remember. Coonts's masterly use of memory flashback gives her heroine, Kate Sawyer, just enough revelatory insights into her own private hell to draw her readers into this purgatory with her. The premise is harrowing. The reveal is explosive. And the ending is redemptive. In other words, this is not just a satisfying novel; you'll find it a memorable read." - Josie Brown, author of The Housewife Assassin series

"Deborah Coonts has given us an incredibly original story. Enjoy!" - Catherine Coulter, #1 New York Times bestselling author

"From the white-hot opening sentence - complete with dead body - Deborah Coonts introduces Kate Sawyer, a highly original and different character. From first page to last, you will be caught up in Kate's world, her struggles, her victories, her fear, and her own battles leaving her uncertain what is real and what is not... or who she can trust... even herself. Kate is a new type of heroine in ways that cannot be described; you have to read this book. One can only hope Ms. Coonts will take a suggestion from a certain British Secret Agent and Kate Sawyer will return!" - Will Graham, author of Spider's Tango, Spider's Dance, and Spider's Kiss

"After Me is a fast-paced page-turner with a plot that will keep you on the edge of your seat. In this taut romantic thriller, no one is who they seem--least of all, Kate Sawyer. Kate must piece together a past she can't remember--a past that holds the key to her staying alive. Coonts has a sure winner!" - Barbara Freethy, #1 New York Times bestselling author

"I love Kate Sawyer! Deborah Coonts has created an unforgettable character and thrust her into a fascinatingly unique and dangerous situation. I want more!!!" - Debra Webb, USA Today bestselling author

AN INTERVIEW WITH DEBORAH COONTS

Why did you decide to write humor?

I’m not sure I decided to add snark to the Lucky books, specifically to Lucky’s own voice, it just happened that way. When I was a kid, my mouth always got me into trouble. Finally, I’ve found a way to harness the sarcasm for the Forces of Good—or at least in a way not to anger my grandmother. And when Lucky started talking to me, she had a strong dose of sass in her.

The Lucky O'Toole Vegas Adventure series is hard to categorize. Is that by design?

When I set out to write Wanna Get Lucky?, I knew I wanted to write a romp through Las Vegas. I had the characters and the setting but no real understanding of narrative drive. So, I threw a young woman out of a tour helicopter into the middle of the Pirate Show and let the story unfold. A bit of murder to keep the plot moving, some wisecracking and Vegas mischief to make you laugh, and some romance to keep it interesting. A bit of a mash up, but it works.

PRAISE FOR So Damn Lucky

“Lucky’s latest lark brims with the over-the-top ridiculousness that I love about Vegas. Fans of the series will fall in love all over again, and new readers will look forward to her next escapade.” - Publishers Weekly

“Lucky’s the kind of gal who will make any heart beat faster.” - Kirkus Reviews

“A whirlwind of a kooky crime novel, and readers will enjoy every minute of it. Coonts provides the perfect solution for readers waiting for the next Stephanie Plum book.” - Booklist

“So Damn Lucky is wacky and witty, chaotic and compelling, and the title aptly describes how you’ll feel after you’ve read the book.” - USA Today

In a breathtaking blend of scientific intrigue and historical mystery,  #1 New York Times bestselling mastermind James Rollins reveals an ancient threat hidden within the pages of the Bible, one that threatens the modern world in The Seventh Plague.

If the biblical plagues of Egypt truly happened—could they happen again—on a global scale?

Two years after vanishing into the Sudanese desert, the leader of a British archeological expedition, Professor Harold McCabe, comes stumbling out of the sands, frantic and delirious, but he dies before he can tell his story. The mystery deepens when an autopsy uncovers a bizarre corruption: someone had begun to mummify the professor’s body—while he was still alive.

His strange remains are returned to London for further study, when alarming news arrives from Egypt. The medical team who had performed the man’s autopsy has fallen ill with an unknown disease, one that is quickly spreading throughout Cairo. Fearing the worst, a colleague of the professor reaches out to a longtime friend: Painter Crowe, the director of Sigma Force.  The call is urgent, for Professor McCabe had vanished into the desert while searching for proof of the ten plagues of Moses. As the pandemic grows, a disturbing question arises.

Are those plagues starting again?

Before Director Crowe can investigate, a mysterious group of assassins leaves behind a fiery wake of destruction and death, erasing all evidence. With the professor’s body incinerated, his home firebombed, Sigma Force must turn to the archaeologist’s only daughter, Jane McCabe, for help. While sifting through what’s left of her father’s work, she discovers a puzzling connection tying the current threat to a shocking historical mystery, one involving the travels of Mark Twain, the genius of Nikola Tesla, and the adventures of famous explorer Henry Morgan Stanley.

To unravel a secret going back millennia, Director Crowe and Commander Grayson Pierce will be thrust to opposite sides of the globe. One will search for the truth, traveling from the plague-ridden streets of Cairo to a vast ancient tomb buried under the burning sands of the Sudan; the other will struggle to stop a mad genius locked within a remote Arctic engineering complex, risking the lives of all those he holds dear.

As the global crisis grows ever larger, Sigma Force will confront a threat born of the ancient past and made real by the latest science—a danger that will unleash a cascading series of plagues, culminating in a scourge that could kill all of the world’s children . . . decimating humankind forever.

Even a Blind Dog Finds a Bone

For Lucky O’Toole, she finds killers.

As the Chief Problem Solver for the Babylon, Las Vegas’s most over-the-top destination, murder is a bit outside of her normal.

But, armed with a wicked wit and an even more wicked right-cross, Lucky takes it all in stride.

But tonight taxes even Lucky’s formidable skills.

LUCKY CATCH

Lucky’s former lover, Teddie, shows up, hat in hand.

A gaggle of egomaniacal chefs appear for a televised cook-off.

And Lucky’s current lover, Jean-Charles, stops answering his phone.

Since trouble comes in threes, Lucky is sure this is the extent of tonight’s trouble.

As usual, she’s a tad optimistic.

A prized Alba truffle disappears from Jean-Charles’s restaurant.

A young chef is murdered in Jean-Charles’s food truck.

Jean-Charles still isn’t answering his phone.

And when Lucky’s path crosses the killer’s will her goose be cooked?

You want to know…I know you do.

Everyone Has a Hidden Talent

For Lucky O’Toole it’s murder…solving it.

She’s good at her job.

Lucky’s friend, the Beautiful Jeremy Whitlock, is suspect Numero Uno.

Miss P, Jeremy’s squeeze and Lucky’s partner in crime, is in a tailspin.

A tractor-trailer full of honeybees jackknifes on the Strip in front of the Babylon, spilling its load.
